NEGATIVE SPACE: A SERIES OF 15 DIGIGRAPHS
Michael Fulks in his Composition...A Primer on Positive and Negative space states: "...negative space is the space that is not your subject...The negative space is defined by the edges of the positive space and the frame or border. [...] Sometimes the negative space is completely bounded by the positive space. What is important also to note is that the negative space also defines our subject. " "You want him [the viewer] to discover things that might not be so obvious." I have entitled this series of digigraphs "Negative Space" in a somewhat philisophical extension of the original concept. Much of what you see here are not the usual subjects for urban photography; they are not even the ubiquitous street scenes of local or exotic places. But they are as universal as air . Most urban centers have these sights. We walk over them, by them, through them and never notice them. They are not the skyscrapers or streets of interest but they define the space of these major events called cities. They support the entire image as well as the entire reality of the city as microcosim. Candace Carman
